A male Dobsonfly ( Corydalis sp.).

A male Dobsonfly ( Corydalis sp.).

The mandibles are harmless ( though the much smaller mandibles of the female can draw blood). The species is part of the order Megaloptera ( which includes the European Alder Flies) and is closely related to the ( much smaller) Lacewings.
